J for Jotting (Notes)

No matter what, I almost always have either my phone or my tablet near me. I never know when inspiration will hit and I would need to jot down notes. I think it is important for a writer to always have something around to write down notes and thoughts. Who knows when inspiration will hit. One of the biggest lies a writer tells themself is that they will remember something. Most of us have fifty things going on. We have jobs, kids, pets, chores, errands, the list goes on and on. Sure, in all that jumnle, we may occasionally remember that random little detail about our story, but chances are it will get lost.

Do you carry around anything to write notes down on?

  1. Jotting things down is so important. I've forgotten more ideas than I care to admit. Of course, they were all the brilliant ones :-)

Have fun with A to Z!

  2. I'm always jotting things down. Post-its are my favorite accessory. And I have note books everywhere. The funny thing is, if I don't write it I forget it. But most of the time if I write it down, I don't have to look at the note to remember what it was.

  3. I definitely jot ideas down...at least a line that will help me remember the whole story that I had picturized earlier!

  4. Jotting notes is important and no matter how much I know that truth, I still lie to myself and think I'll remember. On occasion or eventually I do, but most of the time I know I should make a note (which I also do sometimes as well.)

  5. I keep 3x5 cards or a tiny notebook in my purse. What gets me is when I forget to also stick in a pen. Grrr.

  6. Hello, Traci! I have notebooks or paper, pens and pencils in every room, in my purse, in the car. Then I'm always prepared when those wonderful ideas unexpectedly smack me upside the head!

  10. I do jot notes, although I read some advice in a writing book about letting ideas stew in our minds for awhile instead of rushing to write everything down. It depends what the thought is; if it's a new story idea, I might jot down something basic, and then let the idea stew before doing anything with it. Or if I'm working on something and a line or a scene comes to mind, I need to make a note or I'll forget!

  11. I do carry a notepad, but not for creative reasons, as I'm not a writer. But, in order to rememember A-Z

  12. I usually have some kind of notepad close by because I know there's a 90% chance I won't remember that great idea.

  13. I don't carry anything around with me, but I definitely should. On those occasions that I find myself with a great idea or an answer to an issue in my story, I try to repeat it over and over in hopes of remembering. But you are right, I'm just fooling myself, thinking I will remember. I guess I should start carrying pen and paper around. :)

    Have fun with a-z.

  14. Hi Traci! I'm your newest follower. You can find me (Carmen) at http://heavenleiislandsofpeace.blogspot.com/.

I found you through the A to Z blog hop - there are a lot of blogs to look through! WOW! Anywhooo, I'm always jotting notes on any scrap of paper I can find, then I stick them all into my 'clutch-purse' that goes into my BIG purse. Then, every so often, I go through my notes and throw most of them away because I can't remember why I wrote down what I did!!
